Our Custom Wedding Cake Design Process

We are always ready to talk “cake”, but realize there is much involved in planning a Wedding. After 20+ years of handcrafting Wedding Cakes, we’ve found it best when couples contact us as soon as they have confirmed their Wedding date and reception venue. Many couples will also establish budgets for all the “must haves” in planning their Wedding (wedding attire, food & beverage, planning assistance, photography, florals, music…..Honeymoon!). When considering the cake budget, Wendy Kromer Confections’ custom cakes start at $500.

Once the date & venue have been confirmed, and the couple meets our $500 minimum “custom cake” requirment, they are just a phone call (or email) away from the fun, creative, delicious process of designing their Wedding Cake!

The Wedding Cake Tasting & Design appointment with Wendy is first and foremost.
Each couple is invited to our studio where many sample cakes are displayed, and Wendy’s amazing portfolio is available to peruse. At the appointment, the couple is asked to share any Wedding details that might inspire Wendy, in the creation of their Wedding Cake. As the couple samples all of our “scratch-made” cake layers, buttercreams & fillings, Wendy will help them with possible flavor combinations, cake mock-ups, sketching, and price estimates. We often hear that our Tasting appointments are the most fun part of planning the Wedding!

As our region is considered a Spring-Summer-Fall “destination”, and many of our Wedding Clients live out-of-state, it can prove difficult to come for a Tasting & Design appointment. In this case, Wendy will work with them thru emails, phone chats and shared, “secret” Pinterest boards.

After the Tasting & Design appointment, the clients receive a Proposal, in a timely manner, so they may review their cake design & costs, and make any changes, if necessary. Once the design & cost of the cake are approved, a 50% Deposit is required, to confirm their date in our schedule. We ask clients to be certain they wish to work with us, as all Deposits are date-specific and non-refundable. If a couple must change their Wedding Date after making their Deposit, we will do our best to accommodate their new date, however that is not always possible due to other Wedding confirmations.

If a couple is planning a smaller Wedding and do not expect to meet our $500 “custom” cake minimum, we suggest one of our simpler, elegant Wedding Cakes. These are tiers that are buttercream or fondant covered, directly stacked, and trimmed with a simple piped border design. They are classic beauties, especially when embellished with fresh florals or greenery, provided by the couple’s Florist.
